Give it a try, see what happens.... If you find that the system is
allocating too many resources for queries and index rebuilds (two things
that SMP is great for) you can specify *IO for the system value and then use
the CHGQRYA command within the jobs you want to multithread, specifying the
number of tasks you want to allow. Here is an example of the command to use:

 CHGQRYA DEGREE(*NBRTASKS 2)

We are looking at changing the sysval QQRYDEGREE  to *OPTIMIZE .  We have
DB2 Symmetric Multiprocessing on one system.  We have multiple systems with
as many as 12 processors.

Seems to me I looked at this system value a couple of years ago and there
was a down side or it didn't help us because of the type of processing we
do.  I am drawing a blank, any help?

I looked in the archives, didn't find anything.
