No, you can only run the server portion of a thick-client program on the
iSeries.  The client portion requires a platform with a native GUI.

Swing programs can run anywhere there is a JVM with a native GUI.  Swing is
the "standard" GUI for Java, and you can develop Swing applications in the
Eclipse IDE.  But you can also develop SWT applications in the IDE, and
that's the crux of this discussion - the SWT GUI, which is different from
and in some ways much nicer than Swing.

The SWT components, which are shipped as part of Eclipse, are required to
run SWT applications.  You do not need the whole Eclipse platform, just the
SWT components.  But there's a one-to-one correspondence - everywhere SWT
is, Eclipse is.  So, you can say that SWT applications will run everywhere
Eclipse does.
