The same thing happened to me a few months ago.  I normally sit very close
to our 170.  One day, I noticed that it was working real hard (drives
groaning and processor light flashing) during a time when absolutely nothing
was going on.

I looked and my SMTP jobs were running like crazy.  I concluded that some
spammer was using my machine to relay email messages.  At this time, relay
blocking was turned off due to some test or another that I had done and had
forgotten to turn it back on.

I turned relay-blocking back on and all is well.
