Take a long weekend.

1).   (Only if you have a lot of LPP's, record  and delete them.  NOT
QUSRSYS)
2).   Go to V4R4 or V4R5, whichever you have media for.  Do PTF's.
3).   If you can get to V4R5, and have no reason to get to V5R1 *like an
unsupported *QIC13GB drive), screw V5R1 and go to V5R2.  V5R2 is great.
V5R1 left a big sucking sound.
4).   Re-install any deleted, or newly added LPP's.
5).   DO PTF.s

NB.  There are idocincricies with some LPP's. particularly RDARDS.  Read al
the PTF's amd Memos for all relrases.

I've run into an interesting situation. We have inherited a couple of
unsupported boxes running V4R3. I need them to be upgraded up to V5R1 -
legally, of course. The IBM site says there is no "supported" upgrade path,

so I may have to seek third party solutions. Any ideas on how to do this
without blowing my budget for the year?
