Doing this by heart, being at home.

The port should be 9600.
Steps are:
end writer
Vary off writer
change description
very on writer 
start writer.

On the printer you should change the IPDS wait from "host controlled' to 15 
secs.

We have the same problem, but changing that the creation of this and its 
accompanion SPLF stopped.

By the way, I found a refernce on this in the Software Knowledge Base. Look at 
printing,  LAN printing.  Google with MSGPGQ3621 may give a hit.
