Electronic Service Agent is probably better known as Service 
Director.  It is provided by your CE (or preloaded on newer 
machines) and enables the system to "phone home" any hardware 
problems found so they can be corrected ASAP.  

Electronic Service Agent can be set up to automatically download 
any critical microcode PTFs.  I didn't think it would download any 
software PTFs, but if it downloaded PTFs for itself, obviously it 
does download software PTFs.  If you don't want it to do this, put 
in a call to your CE or ask to talk to someone about it by calling 
the hardware service number.
