To me, this sounds as if the printer isn't responding on that port.
Maybe the JetDirect protocol has gotten itself into a bad state, but the
other functions of the printer (parallel, SMB, LPR/LPD, whatever it
supports) are still working.

Have you tried unplugging the printer, waiting a few seconds, then
plugging it back in?

Have you tried checking to see if port 9100 is open on that printer?
If you have a PC on the same LAN, try 'telnet 10.0.0.8 9100' and see if
the printer accepts the connection, or if you get an error.

Those are the only ideas that come to mind...
