Neil & Carl & Others,

Yes, in the Americas we can number@carrier.com SMS to most cellular providers. BUT, they is no audit trail, there is no urgency, and there is no way of knowing which of any number of relay points is overloaded with SPAM. Using SMTP to deliver messages in any type of monitoring application should be the LAST resort not the first. Protocols that might be available are are all more reliable include SMPP, WCTP, SNPP, TAP and for large users like hospitals, sometimes TNPP direct links.

        Subject: SMS Text Messaging

Hi all,
does anyone have a successful implementation of SMS text
messaging
from an AS/400 / iSeries?
I do not want to pass the messages to an intermediary like BT, Vodaphone
etc
- I am doing that already
and they are just too unreliable for critical messages. Surely some
software exists somewhere that would
enable my iSeries to send SMS transactions direct to mobiles/pagers via a
modem? I have an Intel blade
in my iSeries, so at a pinch, even a Windoze application would be an
option.
