Leif, the problem remains the same; Moore's law is still in force.  
 
Surviving as a company in a market where the selling price is in an ongoing
downward spiral amounting to a 50% price cut every 18 months is not a
pleasant place to be.  For you to sit there and take pot shots from the
cheap seats does not become you.  
 
It amazes me that IBM has done as well as it has under those circumstances. 

 
The box is in its death throes?  That may be.  But probably not the
Operating System.

Now, according to (smart) Al Barsa, the old pricing was "absolutely vital"
for the profitability of the AS/400. Without it, IBM could not justify
supporting
and selling the box. After all, IBM is a business that is in it for the
money.
So, according to that logic the box must be in its death throes with the new
scheme. Or maybe (just maybe) Al was off the mark here. I think that the
new scheme is IBM's last chance of turning the tide for the box, IMNSHO.
