Query Variables

Folks, how can I return the answer from a QMQRY to a CL program? For
instance: in the CL  I do

STRQMQRY   QMQRY(HGR0093/CARDINALITY) SETVAR((VAR1 &VAR1) + 
             (VAR2 &VAR2) (VAR3 &VAR3))                 

VAR1 contains the collection name VAR2 contains the table name

the Query is to be Select COUNT(*) from &VAR1.&VAR2 into :&VAR3 

so is this possible? or do I need to use the SET GLOBAL &VAR3 = (equal to
what?)

and, if it can be set, is the value of VAR3 available to the CL program?
