Thanks a lot for all the input, guys. It looks like SQL Server ( and Host 
Integration server together ) allows VB and C++ applications running on the 
W2K box to access AS/400 data via DRDA ( I still cannot figure out why ODBC 
cannot be used ). However, the requirement is to use an RPG program ( with or 
without embedded SQL ) to read the MS SQL Server 2000 data. And it looks like 
host integration server is not the way to go. But as Vern pointed out, DB2 
Relational connect might just do the trick. Now to go and find an "Evaluation 
version" of the software :)
