The System/38 was introduced in 1978...and except for a short recall, was on
the market until 1989? The System/36 was introduced in 1986.

The S/38 came much later than the S/36... The S/36 first shipped
in 07/83 as I recall... The S/38 didn't exist till much later.

The S/36 still remains one of the most popular and widely
installed systems ever built. The 400 didn't catch up with
the S/36 in sales numbers for several years.
