I don't think so but, you could put the number on a data queue then read
the data queue directly after your add/update/delete.

FileA has a trigger program(RPG) that modifies the buffer contents with a
unique sequence number.

I would like to have this number available to the calling program.

Is there a way to accomplish this without storing the value in an
object;dataarea, userspace?
