We have a command and a cl that allows us to change the signon screen to
tell users when the computer will not be available and why.  It works pretty
slick and does not take very much time to change the screen.  Users see the
change when they get a signon or signoff.  Another place I worked at used it
to also list birthdays, weddings, births, anniversaries and such.

Notepad?  Is that some non-OS/2 application?  I don't seem to have such
a beast ... :)

Actually I have my mailer set to use a fixed-pitch font so it's not
that.
