We had one of those situations-- a consultant wanted to recable a
disk drive, (between 2 systems IIRC), and wanted the operator to
power down the DRIVE.

The operator said, "This red switch?"

The consultant said, "Yes--- WAIT!" or something like that.

But it was too late. And -that- red switch was part of the single
power chain for the entire system. Which, of course, came down.

We presented the operator with a defunct red switch as a prize--
which he did not really appreciate-- he blamed himself for the down
time. We blamed the consultant for not being specific, and told him
to keep his hands off the equipment until the weekend. (:

These stories remind me of the time I switched off the power (intentionally)
of a rack that only had a tape drive in it ... whoops the power to the next
rack was chained off it ... it had three trays of 9337 disks in it. I
turned the power back on immediately and the AS/400 never went down !!! A
heart-attack followed by a renewed love for my reliable and resilient
AS/400.

(Do you remember this Neil?)
