Thank you all for your responses.  You have helped me get this connection
up and running.

Most of my problem with setup was a problem between my  Thinkpad A31p
internal modem, and the 2805 quad modem card on the iSeries 400.   I would
get a 721 error indicating the iSeries had not responded. Support found
that the 2805's lack of support for the V.92  protocol caused my laptop
modem to not connect to the iSeries.  I had to put the initialization
string "+ds44=0" for my modem.  Now the modems connect just fine.

I have a related question.  Can I have the receiver profile startup
automatically when TCP-IP is started so that I can dialup? I don't see any
settings for that  in the navigator, or in the AddTcpPtp command.
