If a record is locked then other programs can access records above and below
the lock. However if the program is reading the file sequentially when it
reaches a locked record it will sit and wait for the record to be unlocked.
Could that be causing your delay?

Subject: Strange record lock problem

Hello,

I have a situation that looks like a record lock problem, but I am not sure.

I have a CL that does:

OVRDBF(VR1SIF) NBRRCD(100)
S1: CALL (VRR956)
DLYJOB(20)
GOTO S1

Is it possible that a VRR956 update to VR1SIF locks all 100 records?

The journal on VR1SIF shows that VRR956 does a bunch of updates (10-20) and
then there
is no activity on the file for about 20 seconds. This perhaps happens 10
times a day.

During these 20 seconds, an ODBC job is sending updates, but they are not
performed...

VRR956 opens all files at first call, then always leaves with RETRN and
doesn't close the
files.

Regards,

Oliver
