Re: Connecting 9402-200 to Linksys router

I've had this running with a Linksys router and a 9404-F10 (V3R2) for a
few months.
Here's ONE way to do it.
Assuming the usual default settings for the Linksys (in my example the
Linksys is 192.168.1.1) pick an IP address for the 400 (let's say
192.168.1.10) with subnet 255.255.255.0.
Set the Linksys DHCP to start assigning addresses at 192.168.1.100 (I set
it to 50 DHCP users) so DHCP won't give out this address.
In Advanced settings, open the ports you want to use to the 400 under
Forwarding.  I opened up ports 23 (Telnet), 397 (AnyNet), 8470 (for Client
Access - Central server) and 8476 (again for Client Access - signon
server).  (If you had a release that could handle SSL you would also want
port 992 - Secure Telnet).  If you are going to use PC5250 you could
configure the connection (under OpsNav) to use the default  ports
(Properties/Connection/Where to lookup remote ports) - else you will also
have to open the Server Mapper port 449.  Forward all these ports to the
400 (in this example, 192.168.1.10).
Set a Default Route on your 400 pointing to the Linksys (192.168.1.1).
If you wanted to find your system by name instead of the external IP
address for your Linksys box you could register a name with a Dynamic DNS
service like dyndns.org

I posted a message a couple of months ago regarding my attempt to connect
my 9402-200 running V3R2 to my home network through my Linksys DSL
router/hub (BEFSR41).  If you've done this successfully and wouldn't mind
a question or two, I'd appreciate it if you'd contact me offline.

I'm not trying to use the 400 as a web server or anything fancy - I just
want to be able to run emulation and file transfer from my 2 pc's to the
400.

I've got a copy of IBM's TCP/IP Fastpath Setup manual and I'm hung on the
step where I have to give the AS/400 and address.  What do I use?  I'm not
familiar with TCP addressing schemes.
