We had a similar problem with one of our customers going from 4.4 to
4.5, and it turned out that the system was building an access plan (NOT
an access path) each time, because the program had hit its max size and
could not update the access plan inside the program. We wound up
needing to recompile a few of their programs, as they had hit the magic
number of 16MB in this case. These programs were originally compiled on
older releases (still in the Version 4 time frame, don't remember the
release). Sounds very similar, you might want to check out the sizes of
the programs in question.

I have a client that after upgrading to 5.1 from 4.5 is having performance problems. We thought at first it was just 1 application but during month end things have come to a crawl. I don't have specifics but one the client said one job when from sub 10min to over an hour.

On the first app the system is building a temp index were it didn't used to. They have the latest CUME, DB and Hyper applied. Anyone have that magic bullet that says..."in 5.1 they changed xxx and that's your problem" ?
