Chris,

3004 memory is 3004 memory no matter which machine you put it in.
You can put the 3004 memory in your 170, but you will not
be able to use more than 832MB in your 2289 or 2291 machine. We moved
two 3004 modules of memory from a 170 to an 820 when we did the upgrade,
and it worked fine.

My business partner says I cannot use the 3004 256MB memory sticks from my
720 in a 170, YET the Installation and Upgrade Guide says I can. I
currently have 8 3001 32MB memory sticks. The manual I have is for V4R4.
Can I go above the 832MB max memory on these boxes by using the 3004 256MB
sticks? I will have some of these after upgrading our 720 to an 820 and
adding a couple of 1GB memory sticks. I will have 4 3002 128MB and 2 3004
256MB sticks which will give me 1024MB of memory if I put it all in the
170-2291 but the V4R4 manual show a max of 832MB. ( 2x32 + 6x128). I do
not trust my business partner any more.
