Dear List,

I had a customer ask me the following question. They have an application
that they can't change (easily) which outputs all reports to a certain
output queue, with a physical printer attached to it, only when the writer
is started. Typically at the beginning of each day, they start the writer
for this printer and then immediately put the output queue on hold. They
then sort out the spool files that arrive in the queue to determine which
files should go to the physical printer and which ones should be moved to
other queues. Sometimes they don't get the queue put on hold fast enough and
they have a file print that should have been moved to a different queue.

They were wondering whether there was a method to start a print writer but
keep its associated queue on hold. I looked at the Start Print Writer
command and it doesn't seem to include such an option. Could this
requirement be supported with CL routine?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

/Paul
