I've setup a new 270 on 5.1 with ops console (1st time). I would print out
the manual
"iSeries Operations Console Setup" SC41-5508-02 or later. The folding poster
"Cabling your model xxx to a PC" messed me up big time. Read the book before
you start, and highlight the path you want to take. It's overly complex
because the book is describing multiple scenarios. I did get it to go. My
biggest problem was a Win98 PC that apparently had some part of the ip stack
"windozed". It would talk to the internet, but not Ops Console. Replaced
with an XP pc & worked fine. There is a test Support Line took me thru with
HyperTerm that proved the Win98 pc was bad. Other big problem many on this
list had is the password upper/lower case change & the diff between DST
passwords & "regular" passwords. Know this before you start!
good luck
jim franz
