Fiona,

His user class was set to *user and Spcaut was for usrcls. We don't
want him having splctl since that would give him access to all the spool
files on the system. But I did grant him authority to all objects for
the object. We only use PentaSafe for additional security and we don't
have it set up to remove the authorities.

MaryLou,

What's in his profile for USRCLS and SPCAUT ?
Do you grant him *splctl ? Or *use authority to the outq, or the devd
?
And just check that there aren't any scheduled jobs or security
products,
(like Detect-IT) which may have been set up
to remove such authorities ?

Working on an upgrade for our 170 to a 270. Running v5r1 now and it
will be
the same on the 270. In pricing out the system upgrade, I was
surprised to
know that while CAE is "unlimited use" it does have a limit of "10
concurrent users". We have been using this setup on the 170 with
20-22
concurrent users(desktops, not sessions) since installation in 1999.
We are
not getting any licensing errors expect for a very rare occasion with
WinXP
CAE desktops. We do not get any qsysopr licensing messages. I am told
that
if license messaging or access limitations happens with the new 270,
CAE
licenses are $275 each.

Can anyone tell me if I can expect the need to purchase these licenses?
 I
am considering using a freeware 5250 client(recommendations?) for
those
machines that do not need file transfer, etc. vs. purchasing approx
$2200 in
extra licenses. We are connecting via tcp/ip.

Not much incremental cost, I realize, however I would like to turn my
budgeted amount into hardware features not extra licenses I have been
doing
without for three years, you know?

Thanks,
