Can't I use 192.168.0.6(AS400 DNS) for my primary and
192.168.1.1(Firewall Box/Gateway) for my secondary DNS on my pc box?

Did you set your Windows DNS to this new server?

And I don't know how (with AS400 DNS), but your internal DNS needs to
be setup with a Forwarder. This is so if you query it for something
(say www.ibm.com) and it doesn't know who it is, it can forward the
request to somebody who does (eg: Your "real" DNS provider).

Otherwise, you will gain the ability to query your site, but loose the
ability to get at anything else! Not good.

Bob

PS: A VERY good book that covers everything you could ever want to know
about DNS and a lot more is "DNS and Bind" published by O'Riely. It is
one of their Nutshell books.

using ops nav 5.1 against a 4.5 box.

system name/network/server
on bottom half, configure as400 as DNS This starts a wizard.
Next> root servers - click on load defaults.
Next> select Primary
Next> enter fully qualified domain name "reliatex.com." (don't forget
the
dot after the com)
Next> check create and delete reverse mappings by default
add host name(s) include www with your internal ip address
when done adding, click on finish.
click OK for create reverse domain

To add: again using ops nav
select your domain "reliatex.com"
right click / new host
add host = www
ip = your internal ip address
the rest can be left blank
click ok twice.

www.reliatex.com should now work for your pc.

OK, I have elected to setup an internal DNS on my 400 to resolve just
www.reliatek.com <http://www.reliatek.com/> and am having a problem.
Under primary domains I have 0.0.127.in-addr.arpa, underneath that I
have reliatek.com. For the properties of Reliatek.com, the name servers
state.Domain name-reliatek.com. and the host name is www.reliatek.com
<http://www.reliatek.com/> . I start up the DNS server and receive no
messages in QSYSOPR. I enter 192.168.0.6(AS/400 Ip address) for my
Primary DNS on my XP Box. Type in www.reliatek.com
<http://www.reliatek.com/> in my browser, I receive a message that it
cannot locate www.reliatek.com <http://www.reliatek.com/> . What should
I do?
