I've have a client that has the 1200's working but the 1000's won't. The 
Support for ASCII Printers web page lists the 1000's as WINDOWS GDI Support 
Only,  no PJL, SMNP, RMTOUTQ etc.

I've have CA at 5.1 they are running somewhere between 4.3 and 4.5.

Are you having the problem where it just won't rotate?  We used to
have a heck of a time getting the 5L and 6L to rotate.  Then, in a
wild stroke of genius I turned off the "Transform print data to ASCII"
option.  Works great now.
