Leif,

>what happened to that product?

ACCELER8 was not to circumvent or defeat an intentional throttle of SSP's.
Under SSP, indexed files had a "primary" and "overflow" key area where the keys
to the file were kept in ascending order like an array, alternating with the RRN
of the data record.

ACCELER8 replaced the Disk Data Management routines which maintained the indexes
and performed the searches. When installed, it not only usurped the OS routines
but also had to rebuild the index area of every indexed file on the system. It
replaced it with a binary tree structure along the lines of what is used on the
38/400.

System performance improved simply because it was a much more efficient way of
handling indexed files.
