RE: DDM experiences

I think it is pretty quick for certain things. Like your note said about 8
years ago, my previous attempt was over dialup.
example I thought of where DDM could save the day in today's terms:
1 warehouse with 100 as400's deployed and you need to get or put a few
records from each site everyday.

I have just finished a small amount of benchmarking on a typical network of
today, with slower than typical as/400's.
example:
2 as/400's on same network
1 a new small as/400 serves new licensed applications and makes little
financial sense to put on "very large" back end production AS/400, where
existing data processing has resided for years.
You have 3 choices:
duplicate data - not good in this case.
DDM
one of the many other technology choices, all costing in man hours and
license fees, but some offering very fast response times.

To test, I simply had all the files in one library, prodlib.
when aligning the applications to the remote box I renamed PRODLIB to
LOCALLIB, renamed DDMLIB to PRODLIB, after making sure no locks, and that is
it. Worked real well.
Working over the internet it is hard to tell sometimes where the performance
goes south and obviously will not work as well as a high speed local network
or for large data selections such as copy file....
