jim,
The following info may help...
create the following.
1) controller CTLD(CTL01) option(*BASIC) category(*LWS)

    type(6141) model(1)
2) device DEVD(ASC01) option(*BASIC) category(*DSP)
    class(*LCL) type(VT100) model(*ASCII) emldev(3196A2) port(1)
     emlascii(*yes) attach(*modem)
3) addwse sbsd(qinter) wrkstn(ASC01)

*note1: the port is where you attach the modem cable.
note2: there is no line description to create.

the device should say 'Signon Display' if ok, else the cable is probably
the culprit. The info for the cable is in the appendix of 'AS/400 Physical
Planning Reference'
and the info for your modem is in the 'ASCII Work Station Reference V3R1'.

The ASCII CTL to modem cable is...
shell -- shell
2 -- 3
3 -- 2
4 -- 5
5 -- 4
6 -- 20
7 -- 7
8 -- 8
20 -- 6
23 -- 23

Regards.

From: "Jim Newman" <jabezinc@hotmail.com>

I have an AS400 F35 running V2R2 (I know, it's ancient, but don't laugh - it
was almost free). When I got the machine it had an ASCII workstation
controller attached and 4 Hayes 9600 modems connected. The modems have a
small device connected to the cable running to the ASCII workstation
controller that looks like a gender switcher. I'm attempting to dial in
using Crosstalk 2.0.1 with a session configured as a VT100.

When dialing in, the modems are connecting (I can tell this by the lights on
the modem attached to the ASCII controller and by the sounds of the modem in
the pc) but I don't get a sign on screen. I seem to remember from when I
did this on another system about 10 years ago that once the connection is
made you have to hit [enter] a few times but when I do this, the connection
is dropped. The controller these modems are attached to is varied on and
all the devices say "VARY ON PENDING".

Any thoughts someone would like to offer on getting this to work would be
greatly appreciated.
