Like everyone else, it's been a while.  I remembered using Client Access/400
(not the new Windows family) to get the connection.  I did some digging and
found a Client Access/400 for Win3.1 redbook at:

You can read the Asynchronous connection information for info on how to
configure this older version of CA/400 to connect to the AWC.

The book you probably really want is: ASCII Workstation Reference and
Example, SA41-9922, but I don't have a copy.  Maybe someone else does, or
perhaps it is on an old copy of the Softcopy Library.
