UGH Don - you took me back to my S/34 and S/38 days and the "pump" or more
appropriately "snail crawl" to reel to reel tape. If ever in doubt, things
HAVE changed for the better !

And Dan, I do NOT envy you my friend, being on an AS/400 with neither
Mirroring or RAID - YIKES !

Stress to your boss how this would have been NO BIG DEAL with NO DOWN TIME
if you were on that new box and get it in ASAP...

If you need stories about how Mirroring and RAID saved the day at this job
(once) and my last job (4 or 5 times) just ask and I'll provide details !

yes, you can pump the stuff.  You need to be in DST mode to do that and
your CE should be able to do this for you....BUT, you need a drive to pump
TO....and as I recall, it kinda needs to be the same kinda drive you're
pumping FROM...

You can always pump:  disk > tape > disk, but I much prefer disk > disk
