That would give much more capacity then just two sets of mirrored 6607's off the
MFIOP -- if capacity is an issue.  It was also give more room for additional
tape drives if that would help, and mean you could easily add more 6607's if
storage needs warranted.

OTOH, V5R1 is the end of the road for the 400 and my 40S, not to mention they
aren't the fastest kid on the block.  So if you can get by with 8GB mirrored,
I'd be hesitant about much money in parts for an upgrade. -- even if you
installed the 7117 by yourself like I did (some time ago).

You might rather put the money toward a used 170 or other fairly cheap box, and
move your LPP licenses from the 400 to the 170.  You'd get faster performance,
upgrades beyond V5R1, etc.

If it was me, I'd stick to the 8GB mirrored and watch for a cheap 170 or
whatever.  Especially with the prospects of new machines being announced in May,
which may help drive down to resale of 170's or other models.
