This point is very important for as. We are going to upgrade our system to
V5r1 soon, and we have about 10000 of PF's and a lot of them > 10GB size.

Jim,
We experienced the same thing the first week after oour upgrade to V5r1.
It seems that the oobjects especially the DB files
are getting converted to the new OS and DB2 formats. As you touch each
object the conversion is done and once converted
performance returns to normal.  This Lasted the full first week for us
until we had touched all of our most commonly used objects, and
continued sporadically until some of the lesser used objects were used.
