I was doing an upgrade to my primary partition on a 740 with 5 logical
partitions and had something very unusual happen. My other 4 partitions were
already at V5R1 and I needed to get the controlling partition upgraded from
V4R4 to V5R1. Followed the software installation guide and everything went
okay until I loaded on the group PTF's and the cum package. The machine hung
on the IPL after the cum package installation. It hung at the point of
applying the PTF's. This was 5722999 PTF and it hung for at least 3 hours.
Called the support line and it appears that when you upgrade the controlling
partition you should not have any of the secondary partitions set to power on
at IPL. I couldn't find anything in the info center on this.

I just wanted to give anybody out there who is about to do this a heads up.
