Re: Autonaming TCPIP - PTFs - and more fun!!

PTFs are Program Temporary Fixes. They are connected to the various LPPs
(Licensed Program Products). The 7-character ID is for the kind of product.
a 999 at the end is the LIC (licensed Internal Code) that everything needs.
the SS1 at the end is operating system software. TC1 is TCP/IP.

You use something like "DSPPTF 5716999 MF21135" to see whether that fix is
on the system. You can leave off the last item, and you'll see the entire
list of installed PTFs for that product. Just run DSPPTF and you'll see
each product's PTFs, one product at a time. Press ENTER to get to the next
one. This is why you may not have seen one of these - you had the list up
for the wrong product.

Tehse are orderable by various means. They are free, generally, but you
need to be on some kind of maintenance, I think.

You cannot take them off one machine and put them on another, unless they
are at the same version/release/modification. Even then, you might have
problems because of prerequisites (other PTFs) that a given PTF needs.

When you order PTFs, you usually get a very precise set of instructions for
intalling them It's not hard, just picky.

You want some form of  System Startup and Problem Handling  manual. There
may be one at your site for v3r7, it's not online anymore. But later
versions will be useful. The one for v4r1 is at

This site http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/online/v3r7eng.htm
will get you to a library of manuals. Change the v3r7 to another release to
see other sets.

Also go to www.iseries.ibm.com/support and look for the link on the left
for Fixes.

I think you'll have trouble, though, because v3r7 is no longer supported,
AFAIK.
