There isn't really any guidelines for this ... it all comes down to the
software that you are using.  Some software packages have a relatively
short "code path" and require next to no CPW ... others execute a LOT of
code and are much more processor dependent.

That's why NO ONE can answer your question ... in the end, most software
vendors have their own "rules of thumb" that they use ... if the machine is
using a vendor software package, try to get guidance from that vendor.

Another issue is whether the software uses "interactive" or "machine" CPW
... THIS IS A VERY SIGNIFICANT ISSUE ... often a machine has 10 or more
times the total capacity than interactive.

This is one reason out of many that my company is writing all of our new
applications to be able to run without 5250 terminal function.  IBM made a
conscious decision to push users away from 5250 terminal functions and to
significantly tax those that chose to remain.

Unfortunately for IBM, this also tends to make the software somewhat
machine independent ... an unintended consequence!
