Yes the values are independent and thats why my original way really didn't
work.
the way i had it i could have values of 'D' 'AC' 'PEDLV' and it would pick
up.

basically what i want is if the status is one of the values listed  'AC'
'PN' then ignore and if the acct status is one of the values listed 'AC'
'PN' ignore but the type must be one of the values listed 'PEDLV' 'PDLV'

i've changed to a 3 file  test based on chucks example which seems to work,
i get the same results as my original hard coded query
