See my recent postings about the greyed out read.  If I don't resolve this
- it may be moot.  Someone else care to research?  Sometimes I have to do
real work.

True enough. But how about pushing for an alternative?

Why not a column-level attribute that allows choosing returning an error or
a default value such as blank, zero or null? ...or possibly supplied by a
trigger program?
