This can be done using the QDFRTVFD api.  Midrange Computing had an article
on going indicatorless in RPG in Jan 2001 by Paul Ladoucheur that had a
procedure that does this and it works great.  There are some other nice
procedures as part of this also.  Here is a link to the article and the code
