I believe you will find that when a file is created in the IFS the
authorities granted to the creator/owner of the new file are the same
authority that the owner of the directory has to the directory. Public
access also seems to be the same as for the directory.

This can lead to some bizarre side effects.

Try searching the iSeries technical site for IFS and authority. I found one
document that dealt with this after spending quite a few hours searching.
