Thanks.  I was able to look up the A6XX but never could find the 0244
part.  I told the customer that I thought there was a drive problem, and
had her call the hardware maintenance folks.

A means it's expecting you to do something (though I've found that 'A'
codes don't always give you the chance to do something
6xx is hinting towards the LIC Machine Check handler
0244 is hinting that it's lost contact with a disk.
I think the number incrementing is a sign that the AS/400 is trying to get
faulty data of that disk and remove it from the RAID set.
I'd be ready to ring your hardware engineer soon...
