Well, remember that the internet was designed to keep going even in the
face of a (limited) nuclear war; so it should be resilient enough to
cope with just about anything.

I don't really see the connection.  OK, you probably got the virus via
the internet, but if it had come in via another external connection, or
on an infected CD-ROM, you'd be no more or less down.

True.  But the web, Usenet and mail lists can become the repository of
that wisdom.  Personally I can barely remember how we worked without
them.
