...that could well be the case, Sorry but the 270's I have are are
down(being backed up at present so I can't check it further.  there is some
useful info on alternate installation devices in the Service Functions
manual though.

Hmmm....I tried this on my 270....didn't see a "=" sign or any kind of sign
next to my OPT01 or TAP01.
Is the "=" only valid if you have used an IPLSRC(D) before (meaning...if I
never have done one...it wouldn't show up)

If you go into hardware resources in SST and look for an = sign beside one
of your tape or optical devices, this indicates what was used the last time
there was a rebuild. I think to change it you have to go into DST.
