You might be able to use your async modem to do dialup TCP/IP (PPP). Then
you could use FTP for your file transfer. I think it depends on what VRM of
OS/400 you are on and what your comm adapter supports.

You should try CTRLINPPP and see if it will let you use the comm resource
you have in mind. If you get past that, try going into Ops Navigator and
setting up a switched outbound profile under networking. If you get that to
work, you can use STRTCPPPP in your CL to vary the thing on when you want to
use it, and use batch FTP to perform your transfer.

You will, of course, have to set up corresponding answering PPP profile on
the other side, as well as have FTP server running, etc.
