Could be mangling this a bit but HIPAA

Healthcare Information Privacy & Accountability Act.  US Legislation
that mandates that healthcare providers, or anyone who is privy to
health related information, keep private information private.  There
are pretty substantial penalties for disclosing (on purpose,
accidentally or through neglect, inattention, etc.) private
information.

Couple that with the Graham Leach Bliley act (US Senate) that
regulates financial institution disclosure of private information, and
you've got some pretty strict legislation about your responsibilities
to safeguard the data you keep on individuals.  It's not everything
that the privacy advocates want, but it is sweeping.

If you are holding private information about your customers
(Healthcare, SSN#'s, financial records, etc.), you should be aware of
these laws and make sure that you stay on the right side of them.
