>What resets the time out (WAITRCD) parameter of this?

Nothing automatic; there's no system facility to execute a CHGDSPF every so
often. Even a release upgrade won't touch the attributes of your display
files.

>One of our users had this time out on her
>while taking a pause after constant data
>input on a particular video file.

I guess I'm confused by what "time out on her" means in this context. It
won't be the first time I've been confused!

>During the preceeding period, she has input
>data on the screen, moved the cursor, etc. but
>had not hit <return>. I was under the impression
>that any keystroke or cursor movement would
>reset the time out.

The behaviour you're describing sounds like a Windows screen-saver. The
iSeries doesn't know that the user is typing until an AID key (Enter, Help,
CFxx, etc.) has been pressed. Then the entire display's worth of data is
pumped back to the program all at once.

You can have a session time out, controlled by either TCP/IP or by
QINACTITV. This usually results in a new sign-on display. You can have a
READ request time out, controlled by WAITRCD. This usually results in a
major 03 return code which the program can detect, or an error message if
the program isn't handling errors. You can have an object lock time out,
controlled by WAITFILE. This can be handled by the program, or an error
message if the program doesn't handle.
