Outrageous, isn't it.  You can use Netshare400.com for $120 a year.

$900 for a nic card!  I just bought one for my PC for $5.00.  (Btw, the tape
drive price looks like a deal.  Did you leave out the price for the
controller <g>? The 8MM's are a lot more.)

If you want an AS/400 for RPG development (or just about any non-java
development), I'd consider buying a used one.  I would only consider a new
270 if you also want to develop Java servlets.  (Of course, for that I'd
seriously consider something else for development.  These as/400's are just
too expensive.  And, once you do that, you may wind up selling non-as/400
solutions.  I can't help but suspect that this is IBM's master plan.)

The development tools does include all the compilers and PC development
tools for one price.  If you go to V5 you can't avoid that.
