That depends on the modem on the other end, but generally speaking
the 7852 will attempt to connect at what ever it sees. The 208
standard is acceptable to the 7852 since it is a lower standard.

I can recall a time when you had to have identical modems on both
ends to get anything to work, but this modem sure changed that.

As a side note, this modem is NOT manufactured by IBM. They provided
the standards and another company built it.
