Hi Chuck,
        I have two suggestions for you :
Either,
1)  Since your BP screwed up by selling you disks that are not supported
until post upgrade .. you could ask them to help out (for no additional
charge!) by lending you some additional disk space until after the v4r5
upgrade, twist their arms if necessary.
or ,
2) I assume you have a full system backup in your upgrade plan ... so after
the backups, delete a few of your large libraries to make room for the
upgrade;  co-ordinate the v4r5 upgrade with the disk upgrade (following
immediately), then restore the deleted libraries.  This is a more difficult
approach to manage, and long hours over a week-end, but it should work.

Yep, realize all you are saying and as part of the sizing deal, I wanted to
get all the PTF's perm applied
because that can take up a chunk of disk space on a small system (we are
20BG).

And yes, I do plan to do all of the PTF's for V4R5 too.

And we have 40GB of disk to put on...

But here is the kicker... It took the folks around here forever to agree to
get the disk and upgrade to V4R5.
Back when I proposed this, we were in pretty good shape but I knew there
would come a time when that would not
be the case... So we talk to our BP (the ones that sold them the system
originally before I got here) and get
V4R5 ordered and additional disk. So I get the disk in here and talk to a
buddy who is a former IBM CE and he
says "These disks can't be put on a V4R1 box, you have to be on V4R5)"... So
I talk to our BP and and they
check and SURE ENOUGH that's the case... Grrrr - well thanks on HECK of a
lot...
