Been there - done that. Make sure you are signed on to your W2K machine as
an administrator. Go to the web site and download WDCLEAN to get rid of
failed installs. Re-boot when it tells you too. I also cleaned out my
registry and folders manually after WDCLEAN. Put all of your loose change
in your left pocket. Use V5R1 if you can - more success there.

Subject: Installing Websphere - no joy

I spent most of the day yesterday trying to get a clean install of Websphere
on a Windows 2000 desktop. I have two piles of CDs: one pile of 3 is V4R5
and the other pile of 5 is V5R1 (they both have really nice plastic flip
books to hold all the disks in).

The "readme" instructions say very clearly that a clean install will be
signalled by a completion dialog:

"Installation is complete only when the completion dialog appears."

I haven't seen a completion dialog. I'm not counting but I have been
through the install/uninstall about 6 times. The uninstall isn't very
satisfying either, you can't use the Microsoft uninstaller and the Websphere
uninstaller falls over on me...

"Product Uninstall

To uninstall WebSphere Development Tools for AS/400, at a command prompt run
wdt4imain.exe from the original installation source and use the Remove
option in the Program Maintenance screen. Do not use the Windows Add/Remove
Programs method and do not remove individual features manually because they
will not be removed correctly. Always reboot your machine after uninstalling
the product."

Has anyone been successful in installing Websphere on Windows 2000?

Would you recommend the V5R1 version?

Can I use the V5R1 version with a V4R5
system/38/as/400/elogo/server/iseries?

Do you have any suggestions that might contribute to my success?

Thanks for your help,
