Some time in my past, I wrote and MRJE system on a Series /1 as a from
end concentrator to extend the life of a System/3 M15D until the S/38 would
arrive. The S/3 side had a simple program interfacing to the rest of the
processing steps, followed by logic to ether say the S/3 side completed
OK or give it the data again sort of re-que process.
It was not a long project and it was transferred over to the S/38 as
part of the typical S/3 to S/38 migration. It lived and worked there for
many years and finally was replaced by S/38 functionality. Al
this later evolved to AS/400 in another fashion.

Net is the Series/1 can be written to do MRJE. I don't think it
impossible but there is custom work to be done.
